Shopify product image size, done for you
Shopify says 2048 × 2048 pixels usually displays best for square product images. Images can be up to 5000 × 5000 pixels or 25 megapixels, and must be under 20MB. PNG is Shopify's first choice for most product images. Sweepcut's Shopify preset exports a whole folder at 2048 × 2048.

What makes a Shopify store look uneven
Mixed shapes. Square photos next to tall ones make product grids look ragged. Export them all at the same size.
Mixed backgrounds. One product on white and the next on a kitchen table looks unfinished. Cut them all out and put them on the same background.
Uneven framing. Products that fill the frame in one photo and float small in the next. The same padding on every image fixes it.

The Shopify product preset sets a 2048 × 2048 canvas with 4% padding. It keeps whatever background you choose, so you can export transparent PNGs or put every product on white.
